Almendra Studio was commissioned to deliver the complete residential design and build renovation of this 262 m² family home in Barnes, London SW13. The project involved the full architectural redesign and construction of the property, transforming a traditional London house into a contemporary residence designed for modern family living. The brief focused on creating generous open-plan living spaces, bespoke interior joinery, and a seamless connection between the interior and the landscaped garden.

The project was developed in collaboration with London-based architectural designer M. Marozzi, whose design focused on the ground-floor living areas, while Almendra Studio developed the architectural design of the upper levels, shaping the home’s private living spaces.
Architectural Reconfiguration and Open-Plan Living
The renovation required extensive structural reconfiguration to create a 100 m² open-plan ground floor, a defining feature of many high-end residential refurbishments in London. The new spatial layout integrates kitchen, dining and living areas around a central social space designed for contemporary family life.
Bespoke Kitchen Design and Interior Joinery
The heart of the home is a bespoke contemporary kitchen designed with integrated cabinetry, custom storage units and a large kitchen island. High-quality natural materials, premium tapware and bespoke joinery elements were carefully specified to create a refined yet highly functional environment.
The redesigned ground floor also features a renovated reception hall, a private office, piano room, utility room, reception cloakroom and a gym.
Garden Integration and
Natural Light
Full-height glazed openings connect the main living areas to the landscaped rear garden, maximising natural light and establishing a strong visual relationship between interior and exterior spaces — a key principle in contemporary London residential architecture.
As part of the wider residential refurbishment, the existing garage was converted into a new living space, incorporating a secondary access door, to accommodate a dedicated gym area.
On the first floor, the layout was reconfigured to create a grand primary-bedroom suite by combining three adjacent rooms. The new primary suite features an Italian-designed walk-in wardrobe and a bespoke en-suite bathroom with an oversized shower and design sanitary fittings, carefully selected to enhance the calm architectural language of the interiors. Additional features include architectural lighting, a built-in sound system and a custom made display unit, combining everyday comfort with refined detailing.
As part of the complete home renovation, the stair hall, four spacious double bedrooms and the remaining upper levels were fully refurbished. The interiors were upgraded with full-height bespoke wardrobes, natural oak flooring, refined architectural door detailing, and a carefully composed soft colour palette.
